Recognizing our shared history, spaces and aspirations for the future, in 2009 a small group of friends unofficially created a New York City chapter of the already established United Territories of Pacific Islanders Alliance in San Francisco. UTOPIA NYC was officially incorporated in April 2019.

Our Mission

To provide a safe space to strengthen the resilience of Pacific Islanders with diverse sexual orientation and gender identity through cultural stewardship, outreach, volunteerism and advocacy, while building alliances.

What we do

We provide safe spaces by creating opportunities to meet other Pacific Islanders of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities living or visiting New York City. Our main social event for the year is participation in the New York City Pride Parade, marching in traditional garb with a twist, proudly waving the flags of our Pacific Islands. This event which is held in the month of June every year is an exciting opportunity for those who live in the Greater New York area and out of state also to join us for this festive occasion.

Other social events throughout the year, include fundraisers for various causes championed by any of our members, attending performances and recitals to support members of our community, sports and outing to name a few.

We have only just begun, and are open to new ideas. Come join us. It’ll be fun.
